Video game movies have an unfortunate track record for being the worst genre for movies in Hollywood, the bar is still pretty low and most people turn away at the sight of a new title attempting glory on the silver screen. The only video game movie that comes to mind as a successful leap from small screen to big, was the 2006 title Silent Hill directed by Christophe Gans starring Sean Bean and Radha Mitchell.
Twentieth Century Fox has dropped the first trailer for Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a modern day descendant of the 15th century Spanish Assassin Aguilar de Nerha. Through reliving the memories of his ancestor via a ‘Matrix-like’ machine called “The Animus”, Lynch acquired the skills necessary to confront the Knights Templar the evil ‘monastic military order-turned-corporate giant’ that seeks to rule the modern day.
The trailer is filled with everything we’ve played in the game, from the free running parkour, assassin blade quick combat executions, eagle eye view, lush cityscape, and even the leap of faith! So far the movie looks like it will be an interesting ride through the Spanish Inquisition and most likely leave room for another if the fans deem it worthy.
