Rise of Iron is the next expansion to Bungie’s still popular game Destiny and it features an all new cinematic story campaign set within The Plaguelands, a brand new location on Earth. Under the command of Lord Saladin, whom you know from the Iron Banner, you will face a new faction of Fallen Devils, the Splicers, while unraveling the mystery of the Iron Lords, a squad of heroes from hundreds of years ago who sacrificed themselves to save humanity.
Rise of Iron features new weapons, armor, and gear, as well as a new cooperative three-player Strike, a new mode and maps for the Crucible competitive multiplayer, and an all new six-player cooperative Raid.
Bungie’s live stream on Twitch highlighted a few key points without giving us all the goods at once, more information will be revealed over the summer. There will be new strikes, new patrols, a new raid, and new public events as well as returning favorites that will be thematically tied to the current story involving the Iron Lords. The Crucible will see new maps, new modes and new features, all of which will be highlighted in future streams this summer.
The Cosmodrome has changed to a much darker tone and winter has come. In this expansion we will get to travel back to “the wall”, the destination in which we began our journey and will be able to climb it, delve further into it, and see whats beyond.
In Destiny: Rise of Iron players are promised a deeper explanation of the Iron Banner’s lore, including where it all began. Felwinter’s Peak is where the Iron Lords once held watch over Old Russia and protected humanity against an ancient evil hundreds of years ago. Lord Saladin is now the last of the Iron Lords and you will journey back to Felwinter’s Peak and reclaim it.
This is where the ancient evil was once locked away as the Iron Lords sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Ever since then Lord Saladin has been training Guardians in the Iron Banner to better combat its inevitable return. Players will learn more about the lore within the Iron Banner through PVE campaign quests such as the idenity of Iron Lord Jolder (as in Jolder’s Hammer, who is female).
The Fallen have always been infatuated with technology and have found the ultimate technology “SIVA, a Golden Age breakthrough in self-assembling, self-replicating nanotechnology.” The new Fallen will have new tactics, weapons, and fight patterns.
There will be new gear for players to attain, details will come later.
Rise of Iron will see new relic weapons akin to the Scorch Cannon and the Vex Shield. Here we have a flamming battle axe that will last a few minutes or until you have used up its energy, you will be able to find this within the world, missions, and possibly strikes.
The Gjallarhorn is coming back to Destiny and every player will be able to forge one from a fallen hero through a quest line. If you pre-order you will be able to get it in “Iron Black”. Pre-orders are now live at Desinythegame.com
More information will come out as the summer progresses, and we will keep you posted. Its also important to not that Destiny will not longer support last gen consoles starting in August (Xbox 360, PS3).
