Marvel is absolutely killing the super hero movie game! THOR: RAGNAROK opens the bifrost and takes us into the upper echelon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beyond the trivial machinations that plague the Avengers.
Cate Blanchett plays Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death (based on the Norse goddess, Hel). In the beginning of the trailer we see her destroy Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir and banish him to what looks like hell. Hela has the power to take human and Asgardian souls to Hel, the ability to instantly kill any worshipper of the Asgardians and the Asgardians themselves with her “touch of death”. Her ulty/super (ultimate hit at the end of a combo string) is her “Hand of Glory”, the ability to magically enhance her combat strength to punch someone to death (One Punch Woman).
Jeff Goldblum plays Grandmaster, one of the oldest living beings in the universe who has attained a cosmic level of power and knowledge. He seemingly stands out in this trailer, but I think thats because hes being played by Jeff Goldblum. It also looks like he is hanging out with The Eternals in the background. Can’t wait to see his performance.
We’re wondering how in the fresh Hela did the Hulk wind up on this planet? In the comic “Planet Hulk”, the not so jolly green giant was blasted into space by Marvel’s Illuminati (Professor X, Doctor Strange, Mister Fantastic and more), whereby he landed on a Mad Max-like planet that held gladiatorial games that he then dominated. Looking forward to that plot point as well.
THOR: RAGNAROK is headed by New Zealand director Taika Waititi, best known for the 2014 critically acclaimed vampire mockumentery What We Do in the Shadows. Taika is well known for his work in comedy, as seen in the Thor shorts, which leads us to believe the new movie will have a lighter fun vibe more akin to Ant Man.
Feast your eyes on the stills from the trailer. Get ready for battle when Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3!
