What a day for Gears of War fans! Gears of War 4 is now in open beta for all Xbox Live gold members until May 1st! In addition to that, we also have news of what the collector’s edition has in store for all Gears adherents.

Open beta now available until May 1st 2016 for all Xbox Live gold members!

Open beta now available until May 1st 2016 for all Xbox Live gold members!

After a brief access period to the beta on April 18th through the 24th, we’re now seeing more of what The Coalition (formerly Microsoft Vancouver and Black Tusk studios) has prepared for one of Microsoft’s biggest franchises between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Be ready for all the carnage now, as the full game will not be released until early October.

With this beta announcement also comes a pre-order that includes a statue of J.D. Fenix, the title character of GoW4, and other little goodies with a premium price of $250 USD for the Collector’s Edition. There will be 2 variants of said edition, one with the “Collector’s-Outsider” option, where the statue of J.D is in more casual clothes, and the standard “Collector’s” option with J.D. in traditional COG armor.

If the price scares you, don’t fret! Amazon Prime members receive a 20% discount off pre-orders and new titles, including all versions of Gears of War 4. But if you’re still not swayed, you can order the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 USD which includes the season pass of the game and a SteelBook case instead of your standard, boring, Xbox One game case. Speaking of which, you can still get the plain, vanilla edition of Gears of War 4 for $60 as well.

If there’s one thing to take away from all of this, it’s Microsoft finally having an exclusive release for one of their flagship franchises, for the first time since Halo 5. Make sure to have October 11th marked on your calendar, as the full game will drop then, unless you buy the Ultimate Edition or better, then you’re seeing a release date of October 7th, since I forgot to mention that 4 day early access is exclusive for those who pre-order the upgraded editions.
