Companion App for Now...

Being a game developer at a table top game conference means two things. One, I’m not staring at a screen as much as I normally to. Two: I spent a lot of my time looking at table top games that are incorporating digital content. Specter Ops is already a great turn based tactics table top game that has a companion app currently in Beta. The app isn’t essential to making the game work but it helps with set up and rule keeping.

The Specter Ops app looks great. The objects are all 3D and the sound effects are pretty nice (the flash bang in the video is almost* too good). It functions as a setup guide, and helps with rules and moves.  Although this is currently just a companion app, it already has the potential to be a great asynchronous tactics game (digitally) too. You can set custom moves, the sounds are there, and even the developer we were talking to was suggesting multiplayer or AI to play against. I love video games in this style so I am very excited to see this do well enough to keep getting developed into a full game.

Check out the video below to see how the app work and listed to one of the devs guide me through setup and the first few moves.
