A new trailer dropped today for the upcoming Netflix LUKE CAGE series, and Sweet Christmas does it deliver.

Hard hitting action, suspense, and even a good chuckle worked in there. Those Netflix boys really know how to cut a trailer. Luke Cage (Mike Colter) is a man dragged reluctantly into the world of urban heroics by the long standing Marvel credo “with great power comes great responsibility”. Our Harlem-based defender stands with friends like Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) and NYPD Detective Misty Knight (Simone Missick) against crime boss Cornell ‘Cottonmouth’ Stokes (Mahershala Ali) in what looks to be a thrilling series the best side of The Wire.

There’s a lot to see and analyze– at the very start, we get a brief glimpse of Luke’s origin, what looks like a comic-accurate-prison-science-experiment, where he emerges from the tank wearing a silver tiara and braces reminiscent of his original costume from the comics.

All that’s missing is that cool as heck silk shirt, but even comics Luke eventually trades up to casual clothes, similar to what we see Colter’s Luke wear.

The real highlight of this trailer for me is seeing the series’ main antagonist in action. Cottonmouth seems to be filling the criminal power vacuum left by the incarceration of Wilson “The Kingpin” Fisk in DAREDEVIL, with his leg-breakers on the streets shaking down local businesses before being effortlessly defenestrated by Luke.

I’m on the edge of my seat! It’s a long road to the end of September… but until they force Mike Colter into that yellow top straight from the 70’s– Make Mine Marvel!

LUKE CAGE debuts only on Netflix on September 30th.
