December 16th 2016, the premier of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is one hundred seventy six days away. A good number of us Star Wars fans have been counting down since the premier of The Force Awakens, others since they first heard of the Star Wars Anthology series. The premier is still a few months away but luckily for us, the people over at Entertainment Weekly gave us a sample of things to come with photos from the set of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Check them out below!

We also got to learn the names of some of the new characters, three of which were very surprising to me and will be surprising to other fans of Star Wars that know the lore and extended universe.

Jyn Erso

Jyn Erso is the heroine of the story played by the talented Felicity Jones. Jyn’s father Galen, played by Mads Mikkelsen, is a scientist in the war torn galaxy who knowledge is wanted by both The Rebels and The Empire. This gives us a little more incite to why Jyn is fighting with The Rebellion.

Chirrut Imwe portrait

Chirrut Imwe, played by the incredible Martial Arts Master Donnie Yen, is a blind warrior who is not Force sensitive but believes fully in The Force.

Baze Malbus

Baze Malbus, played by Wen Jiang, is a soldier who much like Han Solo doesn’t believe in The Force but believes in his pal Chirrut Imwe, and this fights next to him in The Rebellion.

Captain Cassian Andor

Captain Cassian Andor, (not Biggs Darklighter), played by Diego Luna, is an intelligence officer with combat experience. The quiet grizzled soldier that reels in Jyn for the fight against The Empire.

Pilot Bodhi Rook

Pilot Bodhi Rook, played by Riz Ahmed, a volatile but experienced pilot, and the squads lead pilot.

Director Orson Krennic

Director Orson Krennic, (not Grand Admiral Thrawn), played by Ben Mendelson, is responsible for protecting the security of The Death Star project. He manipulates things in The Empire to his need and unlike Grand Moff Tarkin is very unpredictable and volatile.

K-2S0

K-2S0, played by Alan Tudyk, is a droid built for security. Unlike C-3PO who is built for interaction, K-2S0 was not meant to interact with other lifeforms in any level and is very blunt with his conversations.

Young-Saw-Gerrera

Last but not certainly least we have Saw Gerrera, played by the LEGENDARY Forest WhitakerGerrera, if you remember, is a character from The Clone Wars series who first appeared in the episode “A War On Two Fronts”. During The Clone Wars him and his sister Steela fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems on their home world of Onderon.

So what do you guys think? Are you still excited about Rogue One, or are you ok with waiting till Episode VIII? Are you surprised by who the characters are and their story? Let us know on Twitter @badcoyotefunky or to me directly @dabeardedmeance or in the comments below.
