Around this time last year at NYCC I was wondering around, like a lost puppy, alone, hungry, and needing to pee. Then I came across Booth #236 and met the fantastic crew of Risen Phoenix Studios. Risen Phoenix Studios is once again at NYCC in their same booth #236. The one thing I have a huge soft spot in my heart for is indie gaming, and that is what these guys do best! Their latest title Steamalot: Epochs Journey was released October 9th and will be for demo during NYCC. Read more about the game and Risen Pheonix Studios on their press release below!!

Players put characters on to a board and move and attack their opponent like they would in a regular tactics game. A player can earn cards, level cards, and make their own decks. You can play the game AI or challenge your friends. The game has been available during development and is now releasing its last large feature update with cross-platform PvP.
Steamalot: Epoch’s Journey is set in a fictional medieval period where the development of steampunk technology has begun earlier than the traditional Victorian steampunk setting indicates. The campaign mode follows journal entries that Patric Epoch sends back to Merlin, his mentor.

Steamalot is Risen Phoenix’s first game deploying on both mobile devices and computers. This title is a combination of a turn based strategy game and a trading card game. A player can earn cards, level cards, and make their own decks. When they play against the game or their friends their decks are shuffled and they have to use their characters, equipment, and skills based on how their cards are dealt. Players put characters on to a board and move and attack their opponent like they would in a regular tactics game.
This game is made for fans of strategy and card collecting games, but with less intricate mechanics then either game would generally involve by itself. Although the game involves elements of strategy used in both game genres like deck building and varied movement paths, other game facets have been automated and some have been left out. This enables younger, new, and mobile gamers to more easily engage the game.
Steamalot: Epoch’s Journey is set in the medieval period where the development of steam technology has begun earlier than the traditional Victorian Steampunk setting indicates. Instead of magic the populous is amazed with new intricate clockwork and steam technology. Merlin is a gifted engineer and friend to the King. Patric (the player) is Merlin’s young apprentice who must help him determine the root cause behind rising disturbances in the kingdom.
