Seo Ji Soo sexual assault and unpermissable distribution of photos?
Hi guys sorry for the wait! I got lots of news for this week in kpop! There’s lot’s of controversy…
Lots of groups debuted recently and there’s major conflicts with the media already! The group LOVELYZ, an 8 member group that just recently debuted. Only 7 of them were on stage for debut because of malicious rumors that caused a member to actually have shock and need to go to therapy! Yeah, that’s right… Woolim Entertainment was quoted saying this about only having 7 members debut: Woollim Entertainment stated on the 12th, “Although it is Lovelyz’ debut day, unfortunately only 7 will be going on stage. We’ve decided that the first priority is getting mental help for Seo Ji Soo. Until she has received treatment and we have caught the perpetrator who has brought about this issue, Seo Ji Soo will not be joining promotions. However, she is not leaving the group. This is just a halt to her activities.” “Seo Ji Soo has been swept up in absurd rumors and is having a very difficult time. She is unable to regain stability nor go on stage. Thus, this morning she headed to the hospital”. And what kind of rumors would cause such a breakdown? An assault rumor! There’s a rumor Ji Soo spread around nude photos of someone (or some people apparently) against their will and sexually assaulted a girl!
On November 10, the agency reps of Woo Lim went to the Mapo Police Station to personally request an investigation into the rumors. On November 11, the Cyber Crimes Unit at the police station got ahold of and is investigating a Twitter account of a person claiming to be a victim. The request for the investigation on this day was personally made by a Woollim rep and Seo Ji Soo. In addition, she chose and identified the people who could have had access to her KakaoTalk pictures and might be related to this situation to the police. A rep from the Mapo Police Station told Newsen on November 10, “We received the request to investigate the online rumors regarding Lovelyz’ Seo Ji Soo from Woollim Entertainment. Right after we got the investigation request, we began the investigation. The person in question is spreading the rumor through SNS, so we expect the investigation to take place under those who track SNS.” THIS IS REDICULOUS!
But wait… there’s more! On November 10th Woollim Entertainment posted an official statement saying, “Seo Ji Soo never had a romantic relationship with a girl; she did not perform sexual assaults or take and distribute photos. She also did not say those unspeakable things. The whole world is pointing fingers at one girl before her debut and this incident has become publicized to the point it would be difficult to do normal activities as a celebrity, much less live as a girl. If the people claiming to be victims really have a good case, then come out. The incident has become big enough now that you don’t have to hide behind the internet to threaten us. We beg of you. If you’re going to put up the reason that it’s difficult to expose your status because you’re a sexual minority, then do not pretend to be a victim. If you really think you have a good case, appear at the police office and accept our cooperation. This is something that has a girl’s life on the line. In the case that Seo Ji Soo did anything slightly wrong, we will take all legal responsibility. We will catch the first creator and circulator. We can surmise that the person claiming he/she was victimized by Seo Ji Soo was an acquaintance of Seo Ji Soo in the past, making it appear that one person is impersonating multiple informants to manipulate the media. If the people currently claiming there are damaging pictures are her acquaintances, these pictures should be accessible to somebody, but there are no concretely damaging pictures or proof of harm. How could a mailed picture be a sign of dating or proof of sexual assault and blackmailing?”
So Lovelyz did their debut as 7 members on the 12th and it went really well despite all the rumors and hate going around. What Woolim Entertainment said was really quite admirable and I’m glad they fully support their clients and are confident enough to say such things. It is cowardly to claim someone who’s about to become famous has assaulted you when it isn’t even true! Remember the Jenny Kim thing at YG where people claimed she was a bully at school all because one girl had a picture of her in her yearbook? That was still never fully resolved and was dismissed into the abyss of the internet. Hopefully this will too, because if this isn’t true then there’s a whole HooHaa for nothing! If it is, well I’d be really disappointed and Ji Soo would need to do A WHOLE LOT to even be somewhat impressive to me as a person. I think this whole thing blew up because it’s alleged assault and the victim is female. Homosexuality isn’t even legal in South Korea so this would make it extra illegal!
In the words of G-Dragon… I don’t know what to say no more… Oh wait I do! Discuss in the comments and feel free to message us at BCF with your opinions on the case!
And remember, no hickies!
