Fan’s have been dreaming of Spider-Man entering the Marvel cinematic universe for years now. Since Marvel struck a deal with Sony, That dream is a reality. Sony will work with Marvel to continue the web slinger’s adventures post Captain America: Civil War in their own studio films. With Sony’s recent purchase, that upcoming film may have its name… or names.
Sony has registered not one, but four web domains with very suspicious titles. As of now, all links redirect you to Sony’s website, but purchasing a web domain is an important first step securing a property’s identity. The first domain is SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com, implying the upcoming film would be named Spider-Man: Homecoming. This was further reinforced by the association with the 1984 Spider-Man issue bearing the same name. The story includes a mix of Spider-Man villains and Avengers including Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, War Machine, Wasp, Venom, Lizard, and Black Cat. However, all this is now called into question as three more domains have been registered!
Do we now know the titles for the next four Spider-films? Is Sony trying to mislead is with a smokescreen of additional names? So many film titles released at once raises a number of questions. But in the end all we can do is speculate till an official announcement. These titles do suggest one thing. The new Spider-Man will be much more intertwined with the younger Peter Parker’s high school life then prior trilogies.
Spider-Man: Homecoming (maybe) staring Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei is scheduled to hit theaters in 2017.
