What_If-_Vol_1_10After months of mystery, the New York Times has finally revealed to us just who the new Thor is. Since you have been warned by the title, the new Thor is none other than Jane Foster. Many are familiar with this character from both Thor films, played by actress Natalie Portman. What many do not know is that her character is currently battling breast cancer in the Marvel Comics Universe.  Jason Aaron, the comic’s writer, also gave an ominous quote for the character’s future, “The very act of picking up this hammer, of becoming Thor, is killing her. Where we go from here is the real story.”

This is far from Jane Foster’s first time as Thor. Back in 1978 a “What If?” comic featured her discovering Thor’s hammer instead of Thor’s mortal self, Donald Blake. However, this is her first time taking up the mantle in the main 616 Universe.

Time will tell how Jane Foster takes on Battleworld alongside her medical condition.
