Star Wars: The Force Awakens has achieved the illustrious title of highest grossing film of all time in the US. As such, it should come as no surprise that the film’s breakout character Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) is getting his own comic. Launching in April, writer Charles Soule and artist Phil Noto will bring Poe to a comic store near you in Star Wars: Poe Dameron.
Fans can expect to see the star squadron pilot along with his sidekick BB-8’s journey leading up to the events of The Force Awakens. This will include a deeper exploration of Poe’s role under General Leia Organa. The rivalry between the First Order and Resistance will be further developed with the introduction of a brand new evil nemesis who will oppose Poe Dameron throughout his quest for Skywalker.
Writer Charles Soule, also known for his run of Lando, Obi-Wan & Anakin, and Death of Wolverine, looks forward to expanding the Star Wars mythos in this uncharted territory prior to Episode VII. Soule states:
“Sometimes it can feel like the Star Wars universe is so well trodden and so many stories have already been told,” … “But the way the Episode VII galaxy is set up, there are opportunities for new archetypes almost, and the bad guy we’re working with is going to feel fresh and cool.”
Though he admits it’s a greater challenge than writing an established character like Lando.
“I’ve been thinking about Lando Calrissian for 30 years, whereas Poe Dameron I’ve been thinking about for six months”
Artist Phil Noto, known for his work in Chewbacca, Birds of Prey, and Black Widow, has also been doing his fair share of research into Oscar Isaac’s past work to make the characters actions as similar to his real life actor as possible.
Look forward picking up your copy this April!
