It’s been a crazy year for 20th Century Fox. After last year’s box office bomb, Fantastic Four, Fox has since had massive success with Deadpool, passing 600 million worldwide. But in a surprising twist, Gambit has been bumped off its of October 7, 2016 release without a replacement date! Instead, two unknown films have been slated for October 6, 2017, and January 12, 2018. As of now, many speculate that the two unnamed films will be X-Force and Deadpool 2. Fox has expressed interest in both, and is already in the process of writing Deadpool 2.

Could this turn of events mean the end for Gambit? The lead actor, Channing Tatum, almost dropped the part when his contract negotiations reportedly went sour. Then, after losing Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) as its director, it seemed less and less likely Fox would bet on the success of the solo film. However, with the surprise success of the aforementioned Deadpool, Fox could be taking a look at it’s unused characters with a newfound sense of enthusiasm.

With no more info released by Fox we can only speculate what this means. On one hand it could mean that Fox is no longer interested in a new flagship character now that Deadpool is raking in the big bucks. On the other hand, Fox may be giving the entire production more time. Seeing as Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) is still in negotiations to take the wheel as new director it could be an honest case of a premature release announcement needing an adjustment.

What do you all think is going down at Fox? What else could the two new mystery films be? Let us know in the comments!
